Special Benefits for Medcare Eligible Retirees & Spouses
A Special Prescription Drug Benefit For Retirees Eligible To Participate in the Welfare Plan
If you are a retiree eligible to participate in the welfare plan and are covered by Medicare, you are eligible for a special prescription drug benefit. Through this benefit, the Savannah ILA Welfare Plan will pay for any prescription drug charges that are covered by the MILA General Prescription Program but not paid by that plan because they count toward the annual $500 prescription drug deductible.
This benefit is also available for your covered spouse’s prescriptions if your spouse is covered by Medicare. The deductible applies to each person in the family for whom
Medicare is the primary coverage. A family’s total expense for the prescription drug deductible is limited to $500 per calendar year. To receive this benefit, you must use your MILA General Prescription Program, Inc. card and a MILA Network local pharmacy or MILA mail-order facility to purchase prescriptions.
You will not have to pay the deductible for covered prescriptions that would count toward the deductible because charges are billed directly to the Welfare Fund. You will pay the appropriate copayments for all prescriptions you have filled at either a MILA participating network pharmacy or through the MILA mail-order pharmacy.
Keep in mind that you must be eligible to participate in the welfare plan and be covered by Medicare to receive this benefit. A copy of your Medicare card must also be on file at
the Welfare Fund office. See the Eligibility Section for details on who is eligible. Also, see the Important Information Section for more information about the welfare plan, including information about filing and appealing claims.
Reimbursement Benefit For Retirees and Spouses Covered By Medicare Part B
If you are a retiree covered by Medicare who has elected optional Part B coverage, you are eligible to receive reimbursement – up to the amount determined by the Board of Trustees each year – of the premium required under Part B. This benefit is also available to your covered spouse if he or she is enrolled in Medicare. Keep in mind that you must present your Medicare card to the ILA Welfare Fund Office to receive reimbursement
of the premium. Premium reimbursements will be made quarterly and will be
computed from:
- the first of the month following the month in which you or your spouse reaches age 65
- the first of the month in which you or your spouse becomes eligible for Part B coverage as a result of disability.
The quarterly reimbursement will be prorated to exclude:
- the month in which you or your spouse becomes eligible for coverage after having reached age 65
- the month you or your spouse dies
- the months prior to the month in which you or your spouse presents your Medicare card to the Welfare Fund Office as evidence of eligibility.
