Eligibility

Who Is Eligible
You are eligible for benefits during a union contract year (October 1 through September 30) provided you worked at least 700 hours for contributing employers during the
previous union contract year.

If you joined Savannah ILA on or after October 1, 1996, you will be eligible to receive supplemental benefits after you have completed a minimum of three qualifying years of credited service.

Who Receives A Benefit
The supplemental vacation fund benefits are distributed each year to all eligible participants.

Gratuitous Hours
In addition to counting your actual hours worked for the 700- hour requirement, you may also be credited with gratuitous hours.

If you become disabled as the result of an on the job injury and are receiving weekly, or other periodic, Workers’ Compensation benefits, you will receive three gratuitous hours
for each day you are disabled. You will be credited with up to 700 hours during a union contract year, but no more than 2,100 hours will be credited for each injury.

If you are injured on the job and receive a lump sum settlement of your Workers’ Compensation benefits, you’ll be credited with gratuitous hours equal to the amount of the lump sum Workers’ Compensation payment divided by your weekly compensation rate, with this sum divided by seven. You will be credited with up to 700 hours during a union contract year, but no more than 2,100 hours will be credited for each
injury.

To receive gratuitous hours for an occupational injury, you must have worked at least 700 hours for five consecutive union contract years before your illness or injury, with at least 700 hours during the union contract year before your disability began.

If you become disabled due to a non-occupational illness or injury on or after October 1, 1992, you will receive three gratuitous hours for each day you are disabled if you:

  • receive weekly disability benefits from the welfare fund,
  • have worked at least 700 credited hours for five consecutive union contract years before your illness or accident, and
  • worked at least 700 credited hours during the union contract year before your disability began.

Up to 700 gratuitous hours may be credited for one contract year and a maximum of 1,400 gratuitous hours may be credited for any combination of non-occupational illnesses or injuries during two consecutive union contract years.
