Claiming Your Supplemental Benefit
You do not have to apply for your supplemental benefits. As long as you are eligible and work 700 or more credited hours during the union contract year, you will automatically receive a check from the Welfare Fund Office.
Your benefits under the plan will not be forfeited if you die or retire. They will be paid to you, if you’re retired, or to your beneficiary or your estate if you die.
If You Entered The Industry On or After October 1, 1996
If you joined Savannah ILA on or after October 1, 1996, you will be eligible to receive supplemental benefits after you have completed a minimum of three qualifying years of credited service.
If You Do Not Receive A Benefit
If you do not receive a check for a year in which you believe you worked at least 700 credited hours and met eligibility requirements, you may file a request for a review of your claim. You must include the reasons why you believe records indicating you have less than 700 hours or that you are not eligible are incorrect and provide any additional information in order to have your claim reviewed.
If you’re not satisfied with the results of this review, you may appeal to the Board of Trustees. See the Important Information Section for information on how to appeal a claim.

When Your Supplemental Vacation Benefit Ends
If You Work Fewer Than 700 Hours
Benefits will terminate if you work fewer than 700 credited hours during each contract year.
If You Retire Or Die
If you earn 700 or more credited hours in a contract year prior to retirement or death, your supplemental vacation benefit will still be paid. In the case of retirement, the benefit will be paid to you. In the case of your death, the benefit will be paid to your life insurance beneficiary. If you do not name a beneficiary, or if your beneficiary dies before you, the supplemental vacation benefit will be paid to the legally appointed representative of your estate.
